CROPS AND BASIC ORGANIC IS TODAY

In Mexico, more than 45 organic products are grown, of which coffee is the king per cultivated area; secondly, there are blue and white maize, thirdly sesame, and they are followed in importance: vegetables, agave, aromatic herbs , mango, orange, bean, apple, papaya and avocado.
Although on a smaller surface, soy, banana, cocoa, vanilla, peanut, pineapple, jamaica, lemon, coconut, walnut, lychee, chickpea, passion fruit and peach are also produced.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food “(SAGARPA) reported that Oaxaca, Chiapas, Michoacán, Chihuahua and Guerrero are the main producers of organic food in the country, with 82 percent of the total cultivated area. And is that organic products in supermarkets and restaurants enjoy greater prestige, thanks to its benefits for health and the environment.

For this reason and thanks to this growing fame, almost 169 thousand hectares are dedicated exclusively to produce this type of agricultural industry. The federal agency asserted that Mexico is positioned among the 20 main exporting countries and in the fourth place as producer of organic foods; countries like Japan, the United States of America and the European Union receive Mexican organic foods.

Demand grows 10% per year
Organic production in Mexico is of great social importance because it is an activity involving the poorest sectors of the rural environment, indigenous groups (representing a little more than 50 percent of producers) and small producers with scarce resources.
He explained that on the other hand although organic products tend to be more expensive, the domestic market interested in consuming this type of products grows annually 10 percent. The generation born between 1979 and 2000 is the one driving this market, as they consider themselves to be healthier and more natural consumers. They also like to try ethnic and artisanal food.
