MEXICO IS THE FOURTH WORLD PRODUCER OF ORGANIC FOODS

According to the SIAP (Agrifood and Fisheries Information Service), and specialized information companies, Mexico is one of the largest natural food generators in the world.

Mexican organic food production was placed worldwide as the fourth in importance, according to the specialized portal Network of Specialists in Agriculture.

The publication details, based on data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER), that the market for this type of food has gained greater boom in markets in the European Union and the United States to attack diseases such as cancer.


Therefore, the production of Mexico becomes important as a producer of organic food, since according to the information of the Agri-Food and Fisheries Information Service (SIAP) of the SADER, our country is the fourth producer of organic food worldwide.

The main producing entities of this type of agroproducts are Oaxaca, Chiapas, Michoacán, Chihuahua and Nuevo León, where they have more area for these crops, but the first three concentrate 50% of the production.

Of the organic crops that stand out, there are 45, including coffee, with 44,226 hectares; safflower, with 10 thousand 805; avocado, with nine thousand 804; corn, with nine thousand 291 and agave, with seven thousand 541.

Production is exported to 20 countries, but 85% is sold in the US, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, France, United Kingdom, Canada and Italy and the most important customer is the neighboring northern country, to which they are sent 25 products, such as fruits and vegetables.

The SIAP reports that the sale of organic food to the United States increased 96.8%, from $ 141.5 million to $ 278.5 million from 2015 to 2017.

The deputy director of fruits and vegetables of HEB, José Luis Rodríguez, points out that the world of fruits and vegetables has a healthy connotation by itself but beyond that it has not been possible to transmit to the consumer all the additional values ​​of the consumption of vegetables and fruits organic.
